Most SLDs for South African LV work get drawn in general CAD software that has no idea what a DB, a ring circuit, or a warning label requirement is. SLD Kit's validation rules are written against SANS 10142-1 specifically — main switch presence, ring circuit identification, phase balance, warning-label content — so common omissions get flagged before the drawing leaves your desk.
SLD Kit flags common compliance issues as you draw — it doesn't replace the judgement of a qualified person, and a flagged (or unflagged) drawing isn't a certification of compliance.
A single-line diagram tool built for the job it's actually used for, not adapted from one that wasn't.
Most single-line diagrams for South African LV installations get drawn in general-purpose CAD software, Visio, or by hand — tools with no concept of a DB, a circuit schedule, a ring circuit, or a SANS 10142-1 warning-label requirement. The diagram, the DB schedule, and the bill of materials end up as three separate documents that someone has to keep in sync by hand, and the compliance checking happens by memory, at the drawing board or on site.
SLD Kit starts from the opposite direction: build the tool around the drawing, the schedule, and the export as one connected model, and let the software actually know what a main switch, a ring circuit, or a warning label is — so it can tell you when one's missing, instead of leaving that entirely up to memory.
SLD Kit is in active, early development. The core drawing, validation, and export pipeline works end to end, but it hasn't yet been through a formal trial with working electricians unfamiliar with the tool — that's the next real milestone, not a box already ticked.
